One of several new projects.
Recent thrift store purchase. I love milk glass and I love hobnailing, but they're not mutually exclusive. We're trying to decide in which direction to go with restoration.
Do we...
- strip the wood and brass and then reseal both
- strip the wood and either stain or paint, and leave the brass (polished)
- paint both?

I truly, truly hope you wouldn't paint the wood, especially, though the brass is quite nice, as well.
ReplyDeleteBased on the pictures from Michael's Flickr page (yes, I know, it's his workshop, though I don't know if the decor - vintage/neo-roman - is constant throughout the house), it seems that this 'steampunk' treasure is very fitting, granted you strip the wood and brass, then...
...take the brass and add a patina to it, which can be done with a low-/medium-power electrolysis over the course of an hour or two.
...stain the wood and refinish it with your choice of a clear, brush-on lacquer.
Now, if only it weren't milk-glass and were uranium glass.. That would be a great centrepiece.
Thank you for your thoughts Christopher and we'll definitely take them into consideration! Uranium glass would be spectacular! Perhaps this could inspire an original DIY lamp!
